During our trip through Florida we had the opportunity to stay at the luxurious Metropolitan by COMO Miami Beach located in South Beach for a night.
Some people come to Miami Beach for the nightlife and parties — but we came here for a little escape and tranquility after our vacation up to the Orlando theme parks and Kennedy Space Center — which the Metropolitan by COMO Miami Beach is perfect for.
The Metropolitan by COMO Miami Beach is not located in the heart of South Beach, it is a little further to the north, which means you don’t have to deal with pounding music until the wee hours of the morning and you don’t have to fight the crowds outside or on the beach.
Metropolitan by COMO Miami Beach
From the moment we arrived at this 74-room boutique luxury hotel, we were greeted with a friendly and attentive staff.
The building dates back to 1939 (originally, the art deco Hotel Traymore) — but in 2014 the hotel was completely renovated for the Metropolitan by COMO Miami Beach — the first U.S. hotel from the Singaporean luxury hotel chain COMO.
Though the front desk was extremely busy, we were given prompt and immediate attention upon arrival.
Chris was friendly and informative, telling us about the history of the hotel and all that services they offered on the property — from the roof top hydrotherapy pool (more on that later) to the COMO Shambhala spa, to the seafood-centric Traymore Restaurant in the hotel lobby.
Chris escorted us up to our room — a beautiful, comfortable room with classic elegance.
We were fortunate enough to be upgraded to a balcony room with a partial ocean view — rather than a city view — which was awesome.
The Rooms
The room had everything that one might need for their stay — from the well-stocked mini bar, to the Nespresso machine, to the white robes and slippers, to the rainfall shower head.
No detail is overlooked in making you feel welcome at the Metropolitan by COMO Miami Beach.
Shortly after settling into our room, we were greeted with a knock, and an attentive member of the staff had brought us a small plate of desert samplers and a personalized letter welcoming us to the property.
Very nice touch.
Room service was extremely attentive and prompt — though we only called them to restock the coffee and to bring us some ice for our champagne.
Hydrotherapy Pool
After settling into our room, we quickly opted to head up to the rooftop Hydrotherapy Pool. This is no ordinary rooftop pool.
It is more like a giant Jacuzzi with each part of the pool containing different types of massaging jets and bubbles, including an awesome back massaging waterfall in the middle of the pool.
The pool includes a spectacular view of the Atlantic Ocean and the shimmering white sand of Miami Beach, and the pool is also surrounded by a handful of beds where you can pass the day in the sun.
The Hydrotherapy pool by itself makes this a hotel worth staying at, and we had a hard time leaving as night fell.
The view from the top of the hotel is incredible in its own right as you look out over the beach or watch the cruise ships pass by.
Enjoying the Beach
The next morning we had a tough time choosing between what we wanted to do — return to the Hydrotherapy Pool, check out the larger heated pool located on the ground level beside the beach, or enjoy their private beach just out front.
After checking out of our room and leaving our bags with the front desk, we continued to enjoy the hotels amenities, by passing the afternoon at the beach.
They have lounge chairs and towel service available for guests, and you can also order food and drinks from their attentive staff as the ocean laps at the base of your chair.
Even though it was the middle of January the Miami sun is strong and I even ended up a little bit burnt at the end of the day.
To cap off our day we returned to the Hydrotherapy Pool for sunset and then visited their rooftop sauna — which also includes an awesome shower that mimics tropical storms, complete with flashing lights to imitate lightning and the sound effects of thunder.
Visit Miami Beach
Overall, the Metropolitan by COMO Miami Beach is a truly incredible property.
If you are looking to spoil yourself on a Miami Beach getaway you certainly will find what you are looking for here.
It is one of Miami Beach’s newest property and it meet all our expectations for what we were looking for… A smaller, boutique hotel where we could enjoy a little bit luxury.
If you’re traveling to Miami Beach, I highly recommend a stay at the Metropolitan by COMO Miami Beach.
